Snapdragon plant profile

Antirrhinum majus

An annual flower for full sun.

When to plant Snapdragon

Snapdragons are cool-season and very cold tolerant, so Illinois recommends early-spring and fall planting; in mild-winter areas (USDA zone 9 and up) Clemson plants them in fall for fall and spring bloom. They fade in summer heat.

The calendar shows this cited seasonal window as an approximate band. It does not convert the season into frost-adjusted dates.

Watch for these

Also watch for: needs staking when tall, rust, spent spikes reduce rebloom.
