The Itoh (intersectional) peony is a long-lived perennial planted from a bare-root tuber, best set out in early fall (UConn) or in spring as soon as the soil is workable; spring-planted tubers may not bloom until the next year. Set the eyes 1 to 2 inches below the soil surface, since planting too deep prevents blooming.
