Purple passionflower (maypop) is a rapid native vine that climbs by tendrils and bears intricate purple-and-white flowers in summer (NC State: May to July), followed by edible maypop fruits from July to October. Plant in spring in well-drained soil; in cold-winter areas it dies to the ground and resprouts, and it spreads by root suckers.
